While these are the most common causes of enuresis there are other causes, and 2-3% of cases may have a medical basis that should be evaluated by a doctor, so that appropriate strategies can be developed to address the underlying cause. About 5% of enuresis is caused by disease and infections, most notably urinary tract infections. Some children actually have a smaller than normal bladder capacity which is unable to hold all the urine produced by their bodies. For many this is a situation that will correct itself over time. Some incidents are the result of constipation which adds pressure on the bladder leading to accidents.
