For those that don't know Mark Hanisee, heres what I know about him. He was Treasurer of the local party throughout the 2008 cycle. The 2008 cycle was a mixed bag for local Democrats. Local Democratic incumbents had been re-elected handily, but the party also missed opportunities to unseat a then-vulnerable Peter Nehr in State Home District 48, provided no challenge to Ed Hooper in District 50, and watched Republicans capture two open seats on the County Commission. Republicans maintained their dominance within the countywide constitutional offices, sweeping them all. But those complications can hardly be hung around Hanisees neck. As Treasurer, Hanisees job was to correctly account for the dollars and cents within the treasury and, despite the piles of checks coming in at an unprecedented pace, the partys finances were properly accounted for throughout the cycle. Furthermore, even though the Treasurers job actually wasnt to fundraise, Hanisee helped bring in considerable funding from several local unions throughout his term in office along with the local party raised much more money than in any past election cycle. There was a minor scandal about several checks which were signed throughout the transfer of power in December 2008, but nothing ultimately came out of it.
